Zanotta Sciangai

In the early 1970s, as part of a strategy of typological diversification of its product range, Zanotta began producing furnishing accessories. Sciangai is the first significant furnishing accessory proposed by Zanotta. 'Objects must relate to the user and be easy to use,' explains Paolo Lomazzi in an interview for RAI television. 'Everyday objects, household objects and objects we are attached to.' The inspiration for Sciangai was the Chinese game in which wooden sticks are held in the hand and then dropped onto a table. The opening/closing mechanism is realised with a steel eyelet. Astonishing in its simplicity, it won the Compasso d'Oro Award in 1979.
