Zanotta Sacco

After fifty years, what is left to write about one of the icons of Italian design, which to this day communicates the absolute power of ideas – if such a power truly exists? Nowhere in the written history of design is this object not positioned among the top ten icons that changed the perspective of our beloved discipline forever, and for everyone. Perhaps we can add that – beyond the desecrating gesture of filling a sack (Sacco) with polystyrene beads to turn it into the loosest, most versatile, most irreverent, most liberating, softest, most ergonomic and most 'everything' chair – no defined form exists. For this reason it has stood the test of time, untouched by seasons, fashions and every conceivable '-ism', preserving the greatest value of all: being a concept that goes far beyond the seasons, surviving unscathed to the present day and ready to be transformed into versions for children and teenagers, because encouraging smiles and fun, even when sitting in an 'armchair', is not a luxury reserved for adults. Sacco has been awarded the Compasso d'Oro ADI for lifetime achievement: the award ceremony took place on 9 September at the new ADI Design Museum in Milan (via Ceresio 7), together with the opening of the exhibition bringing together all the projects selected for the 2020 edition.
