MOROSO Nanook

With Nanook, Philippe Bestenheider explores the transition from two to three dimensions – inspired by the image of a tanned animal hide transforming from a flat imprint into a spatial form. This idea is reflected in the character of the collection: an organic, skin-like surface as a visual memory, and a rigorous structure as its counterpoint.

The supporting base takes up a hexagonal mesh geometry reminiscent of molecular structures or snow crystals – light in appearance, but clearly constructed. The armchair translates the motif into an expressive seating object; Moroso produced it as a wooden armchair, among other versions, using an innovative surface decoration technique (developed with Kuei) to bring out the materiality and pattern effect with particular clarity.

The series is complemented by the Nanook Low Table / side table (designed in 2008): a sheet-steel top, tubular steel legs, either powder-coated or gold-chromed – a compact accent that extends the collection's graphic DNA into the room.
