One of Marcel Gascoin's best-known pieces, the C-Chair dining chair, was designed in 1947. The chair represents not only the aesthetic and practical strength of Gascoin's designs, but also the social conscience he expressed so emphatically in post-war France. The C-Chair was originally created out of the need to fit into the new dimensions of the houses built after the Second World War, where Gascoin compensated for the lack of space by creating simple, functional furniture.
Cleverly designed with great attention to detail, the C-Chair has an elegant form and yet a robust construction based on a simple, minimalist and strong design language. Characterised by voluminous, powerful legs that contrast with an inviting seat in lighter materials such as rattan, straw or fabric, the quality of the C-Chair shows in its modern lines, its sobriety and its high-quality woodwork.
