GUBI BASKET lounge chair
The name 'Basket' honours the classic hand-weaving technique used in rattan basketry. The collection comprises a three-seater sofa, a two-seater sofa and a lounge chair, all of which share the same construction. Instead of the inner fibreglass shell originally used by Colombo, the core of each piece is now a more environmentally friendly steel framework that gives the distinctive shape strength and stability. This framework is covered with a hand-woven rattan skin consisting of interlaced strips and oval rods. This technique requires an enormous degree of skill and craftsmanship to create.
