Carl Hansen CH72 Sofa
Hans J. Wegner designed the CH72 sofa in 1952, drawing on his thorough knowledge of joinery and upholstery. The CH72 sofa, a beautifully crafted fusion of aesthetics, function and comfort, was first presented in 1952 at the Danish Cabinetmakers' Guild Furniture Exhibition in Copenhagen. With compact proportions and a slender frame, the two-seater sofa is perfectly suited to a smaller home. Its flowing shape also makes it an attractive focal point from every angle, making it an ideal choice for open-plan living spaces. The legendary Danish designer's outstanding command of fine craftsmanship and furniture upholstery made it possible to conceive a sofa whose design is realised using a number of complex techniques – particularly where the fabric meets the slender wooden armrests. The CH72 sofa is characterised by a sculptural, fully upholstered frame, a loose seat cushion, and elegant tapering legs in solid wood.
The CH72 is available in seven versions: soaped, lacquered, oiled, white-oiled or black-lacquered oak, as well as lacquered or oiled walnut. The cover can be chosen from eight fabric groups; leather is not offered for this model. The loose seat cushion is an integral part of the sofa – the CH72 is not supplied without a seat cushion, and the cushion is upholstered in the same fabric as the sofa.
