Carl Hansen CH44 Lounge Chair
The CH44 Lounge Chair from 1965 by Hans J. Wegner is simplicity in absolute perfection. The chair features both Wegner's characteristic, defined connectors between the front legs and armrests, and grooves on the top of the back legs from which a back cushion can be hung. The armrests rise slightly towards the back legs, becoming ever narrower and thereby elegantly reinforcing the vertical connector. The overall impression is remarkable and the result is comfortable. The simplicity of the design is inspired by the principles of American Shaker furniture, which also inspired Wegner's closely related CH46 and CH47 chairs. The CH44 Lounge Chair is made from solid wood with a hard-wearing seat of paper cord. It is available with optional seat and back cushions for added comfort, along with the matching low CH53 footstool.
The CH44 has a solid wood frame and a hand-woven seat of paper cord. It is available in five oak finishes: soaped, clear lacquered, oiled, white oiled or black lacquered. The paper cord is available in natural and black. The cushion set of seat and back cushions with down filling is available at extra cost, in eight fabric groups and three leather groups. The low version of the CH53 stool is the matching companion piece to the CH44.
