Hans J. Wegner, known as the "Master of the Chair" for his roughly 500 designs, was fascinated by the concept of the rocking chair. His meticulous approach to design, reducing it to what was absolutely essential in terms of comfort and functionality, produced this captivating rocking chair for the modern age after years of continuous refinement. Designed in 1965, the CH45 Rocking Chair is part of a larger series Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Søn, including the CH44 Lounge Chair, the CH46 and CH47 dining chairs, and the CH53 Footstool, all of which remain in production today. The modern rocking chair stands out for the elegance of its Nordic simplicity, inspired by the Shaker era. It has a reclined Backrest design and a Seat surface of woven paper cord, a feature echoed in other designs within the series. With its perfect proportions, the CH45 Rocking Chair has a dynamic expression that allows for effortless sitting, rocking and rising.
The CH45 has a solid wood Frame and a hand-woven seat. It is available in five oak Versions: soaped, clear lacquered, oiled, white oiled or black lacquered. The Seat surface comes as natural Weave or in black paper cord. A cushion set with a foam core is available at extra cost in eight fabric categories and three leather categories.
