The production history of the Oculus Chair CH468 by Hans J. Wegner is somewhat unusual. During a visit to Wegner's design studio, a few photos and a small clay model of an armchair from the 1960s caught the interest of Carl Hansen & Søn. When Wegner's technical drawings of the chair were found and Carl Hansen & Søn had the opportunity to study a full-size prototype of the armchair from 1960 more closely, production of the Oculus Chair was able to begin in 2010. Oculus is the Latin word for eye and refers to the eye-shaped seams in the chair's back upholstery. The design allows the shoulder blades to sink comfortably back into the chair, offering relaxation for both the neck and the back. The distinctive design, with its spacious backrest, angled armrests and soft seat cushion, has made the Oculus Chair popular. The imposing upholstered upper section of the chair is set off by the slender-looking stainless steel frame with angled legs. With its sculptural silhouette and excellent seating comfort, the Oculus Chair forms a natural focal point in any room, whether on its own or in a group. The CH468 Oculus Chair is available with the matching CH446 footstool for additional comfort.
The CH468 has a stainless steel frame with angled legs; underneath the upholstery sits a frame of solid beech. The seat surface, backrest and cushion are filled with tested flame-retardant cold foam and down. The cover can be chosen from eight fabric groups and three leather groups; a wood version is not available for this model. The CH446 footstool is designed to match the CH468.
