Carl Hansen ND52-2 Vita Sofa • 2-seater
Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, two of the greatest names in the history of Danish design, began their collaboration when they met at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. They founded their design studio in 1946, approaching furniture design with a curiosity aimed at finding new and innovative ways to break free from the rigidity of the traditional functionalism popular at the time. Designed in 1952, the ND52 Vita Sofa is a bold example of the Ditzels' innovative approach to experimenting with shape and materiality. The sofa breaks almost entirely with the geometric lines of the functionalist era, expressing a soft, organic language of shape. An elegant, fully visible solid wood frame supports a gently curved, open shell with a supportive, high backrest. The ND52 Vita Sofa appears almost to float, with a light and playful shape and taut, handcrafted upholstery. All upholstery elements, including the buttons, are covered by hand in fabric or leather. The understated and elegant ND52 Vita Sofa is suitable for both private homes and contract use.
The ND52-2 is available in seven versions: soaped oak, lacquered oak, oiled oak, white oiled oak or black lacquered oak, as well as lacquered or oiled walnut. The cover can be chosen from eight fabric groups and leather groups B and C. The buttons can be freely selected from the standard fabric and leather range. The loose seat cushion is an integral part of the sofa – the ND52 is not supplied without a seat cushion. The sofa is available as the ND52-2 two-seater and the ND52-3 three-seater.
