THONET chair • S 162 F range
Elegant, comfortable and available in a variety of Versions: the S 160 range was developed for furnishing event spaces, canteens and residential-style contract areas. The chairs stack tightly (up to 17 units) and feature a connecting mechanism that links them together simply, securely, space-savingly and without tools (Thonet patent). With a low or high back and various upholstery options, the S 160 offers a broad range of applications. A Variant with wooden chair legs (160) turns the popular multi-purpose chair into a residential-style chair for the contract sector, for example for cosily furnished cafés. There is also a delicate and particularly comfortable bar stool (S 160 H) for the hospitality sector and for working at high tables.
The THONET S 162 F chair stands on a chrome-plated four-legged Frame made of tubular steel and carries a Seat shell made of moulded plywood; the armrest pads are made of elastomer plastic. It is available unupholstered, with mirror Upholstery on the seat, mirror Upholstery on seat and back, and full Upholstery. It is stackable and linkable, meaning it can be connected into rows of chairs without tools. Plastic Glides are included as standard, felt Glides are available at an extra cost, and additional stain shades of Beech II are also available at an extra cost.

Mirror Upholstery: With mirror Upholstery, only the inner surface is upholstered – precisely the area where you sit and lean back. The rear of the Seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and delicate while noticeably improving seating comfort.
Full Upholstery: With full Upholstery, the Seat shell is covered all round with fabric or leather, including the rear. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This gives the chair a softer, calmer and more residential feel than the mirror Upholstery.
Elastomer plastic: Elastomers are plastics that retain their shape but give slightly under pressure. Thonet uses them for the armrest pads: they feel pleasantly warm to the touch – unlike bare metal – yield a little when leaned on, and are highly resistant to daily use.
Row connection: Linkable chairs can be joined sideways into fixed rows of chairs without tools. This is required wherever large numbers of people sit together: in halls, churches, canteens or conference rooms. The Thonet connector is patented and meets DIN EN 14703 for row seating, including panic-release safety – in an emergency, the row can be cleared quickly and safely.
