THONET chair • Programme S 166 F
Elegant, comfortable and available in a wide range of versions: Programme S 160 was developed for furnishing event venues, canteens and residential-style contract areas. The chairs can be stacked closely (up to 17 units) and feature a connecting mechanism that links them together simply, securely, space-savingly and without tools (Thonet patent). With a low or high Backrest and various upholstery options, S 160 offers a broad range of applications. A Variant with wooden chair Legs (160) turns the popular multi-purpose chair into a residential-style chair for contract use, for example in cafés with a homely interior. There is also a delicate and particularly comfortable bar stool (S 160 H) for the hospitality sector and for working at high tables.
The THONET S 166 F chair stands on a chrome-plated four-legged Frame made of tubular steel and carries a Seat shell made of moulded plywood with a lumbar support; the armrest pads are made of elastomer plastic. It is offered unupholstered, with mirror upholstery on the seat, mirror upholstery on seat and Backrest, and full upholstery. It is stackable and linkable, meaning it can be joined into chair rows without tools. Plastic Glides are included as standard, felt Glides are available at extra cost, and additional stains for Beech II are also available at extra cost.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inner side is upholstered – precisely the area where you sit and lean back. The rear of the Seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and delicate while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
Full upholstery: With full upholstery, the Seat shell is covered all round in fabric or leather, including the rear. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This makes the chair appear softer, calmer and more homely than with mirror upholstery.
Lumbar support: The lumbar support is a targeted contouring of the Backrest at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. It supports the lower back exactly where its natural curve lies, relieving strain during prolonged sitting – without the need for any additional mechanisms or adjustments.
Elastomer plastic: Elastomers are plastics that retain their Shape but yield slightly under pressure. Thonet uses them for the armrest pads: they feel pleasantly warm to the touch – unlike bare metal – give a little when you rest your arms on them, and are highly resistant to everyday use.
Row connection: Linkable chairs can be joined sideways into fixed rows of chairs without tools. This is required wherever many people sit together: in halls, churches, canteens or conference rooms. The Thonet connector is patented and meets DIN EN 14703 for row seating, including panic-release safety – in an emergency, the row can be cleared quickly and safely.
