Carl Hansen PK52 Professor Desk
The PK52 Professor Desk was designed by Poul Kjærholm for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The versatile and slender desk established Kjærholm's reputation for always combining the best of traditional craftsmanship and industrial design. Kjærholm designed it when the Academy needed a series of tables for lecturers and students. He drew on his extensive experience as a joiner to develop a new table structure that clearly demonstrated his mastery of steel and wood. Metal sleeves separate steel and wood, giving the desk a dynamic, light look. In addition, the table top is reversible, so the user can work on either side – or use one side for work and the other for meals or social occasions.
The PK52 is the larger of the two versions; the shorter one is called the PK52A Student Desk. It has a frame in black powder-coated steel and a table top in 3D veneer that can be used from both sides – with or without the drawer module. The table top is available in four versions: oiled oak, oiled white, black lacquered or clear lacquered. The PK115 drawer module in solid wood and veneer is available in the same versions for an additional charge.
