Poul Kjærholm was one of the leading architects of Danish Modernism. In furniture design, he pursued a functionalist approach and favoured a reduced, restrained formal language. As a designer, he also had a preference for steel, which he liked to combine with organic materials. Both his approach and his material preferences find their most beautiful expression in the PK1. Originally strung with cane, the PK1 is now available in an updated version with FSC-certified woven paper cord. The weaving technique was redeveloped by Carl Hansen & Søn based on Kjærholm's original chair design. An experienced craftsman needs 15 hours to hand-weave the chair's seat.
The PK1 is available with a Frame in stainless steel or in black powder-coated steel. The seat is always made of natural-coloured paper cord. Felt Glides are included in a separate bag and can be exchanged for hard Glides. The chair is stackable up to four units.
