Carl Hansen CH162 Sofa
The CH162 sofa by Hans J. Wegner was designed in 1965. It was relaunched in 2013, having caught the attention of Carl Hansen & Søn while going through the architect's photo and model archives. In this rigorous design, Wegner demonstrates how even a small detail can become so significant that it turns into the signature feature of a piece of furniture. The distinctive element is the enlarged cover caps on the armrests. They conceal the screws in the upper part of the characteristically shaped legs that hold the armrest upholstery to the wooden frame. The wooden cap is made larger for decorative reasons, shifted slightly back from the front of the legs and positioned so that its grain runs across the grain of the leg's wood. The solid wood frame of Wegner's sofa is fully upholstered. The seat cushions have a foam core bedded in down. This allowed Wegner to give the geometric shape softness and good comfort. The sofa is available in two sizes: CH162 as a two-seater and CH163 as a three-seater.
The CH162 is available in six versions: soaped oak, lacquered, oiled or white-oiled oak, as well as lacquered or oiled walnut. The cover can be chosen from eight fabric groups and three leather groups. Fabric cushions are reversible; leather cushions are not.
