With the reintroduction of the S 661, THONET is relaunching an award-winning design by Günter Eberle from the early nineteen-fifties in numerous versions. Thanks to its versatility and its efficient use of material, this all-rounder works in the dining area and the kitchen, in the living room or the home office just as well as in public spaces such as restaurants or waiting areas. Its moulded-wood seat shell lives off the beauty of the natural material and is a pleasure in elegant walnut, warm-toned oak, and beech natural or stained. The tubular steel frame is either chrome-plated or powder-coated. The grained wood surface and the soft curves make the S 661 feel homely despite its formal reduction and minimal use of material, and give it a particular presence in the room. The S 661 combines clear lines with a precise contour. The material combination of moulded wood and tubular steel is typical of Thonet. The programme is extended by the swivel-chair versions S 661 Atelier (DR) and the S 661 H bar stools.
The THONET S 661 DR swivel armchair sets the moulded-wood shell of the programme on a five-star swivel base with castors. The swivel base is made of aluminium, powder-coated RAL 9005 deep black, and is also available in polished aluminium at extra cost; chrome-plated castors are likewise available at extra cost. The chair is infinitely height-adjustable. Three versions are available: unupholstered, with a fully upholstered seat, or fully upholstered all round. With the first two the shell is executed in stained beech, and at extra cost in clear-lacquered or black-stained oak as well as in walnut. The design was awarded a silver medal at the 1954 Milan Triennale and received the „Die gute Industrieform“ prize in the same year.

Full upholstery: With full upholstery the seat shell is covered all round in fabric or leather, including the back. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This makes the chair appear softer, calmer and more homely than in the inlay upholstery version.
