The established design vocabulary of the iconic bentwood chairs 214 and 209 is translated by the design of Sam Hecht and Kim Colin (Industrial Facility) into a material-efficient, stackable moulded wood chair with an ergonomic seat shell on a lightweight tubular steel frame. On request, bentwood armrests complement the seating furniture, which is universally suited to private and contract use and is available in various wood types and colours. The design of the chair pushes the technical possibilities of moulded wood, a material that has always been a driver of innovation at Thonet, to the full. The S 220 impresses with controlled organic form and precise lines, while the moulded wood shell embraces the user comfortably and supportively. The chair's elegant waist allows the seat shell to flex comfortably. Its front edge, which curves smoothly downward, sums up the harmonious interplay of material quality, aesthetics and functionality that is characteristic of the S 220: this "waterfall edge", as the designers call it, avoids pressure points, thereby increasing seating comfort, while echoing the radii of the tubular steel base frame. The programme is extended by the swivel chair variants S 220 Atelier (DRW) and the bar stools S 220 H.
The THONET S 220 F extends the stackable chair with wooden armrests finished in a colour similar to the shell. Seat shell and frame correspond to the base model: moulded plywood on a four-legged tubular steel frame, chrome-plated or powder-coated according to the Thonet collection. The surface is oak, clear-lacquered or stained, with walnut clear-lacquered available at an extra charge. Plastic glides are included, with felt glides available at an extra charge. The armchair is available unupholstered or with mirror upholstery in the seat.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inside is upholstered – precisely the surface on which you sit and lean back. The back of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
