The design by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin (Industrial Facility) transfers the established formal repertoire of the iconic bentwood chairs 214 and 209 into a material-efficient, stackable moulded wood chair with an ergonomic seat shell on a lightweight tubular steel frame. On request, bentwood armrests complement this seating, which is equally suited to private and contract use and available in various wood types and colours. The design exploits the technical possibilities of moulded wood - at Thonet always a driver of innovation - to the full. The S 220 impresses with controlled organic form and precise lines, while the moulded wood shell embraces the user comfortably, providing support. The chair's elegant waist allows the seat shell to flex comfortably. Its front edge, rounded off in a flowing curve, sums up the harmonious interplay of material quality, aesthetics and functionality that is characteristic of the S 220: this “waterfall edge”, as the designers call it, avoids pressure points, increasing seating comfort, while echoing the radii of the tubular steel base frame. The range is extended by the S 220 Atelier (DRW) swivel chair variants and the S 220 H bar stool.
The THONET S 220 is a stackable chair with a moulded plywood seat shell on a four-legged tubular steel frame. The frame is available chrome-plated or powder-coated according to the Thonet collection, the shell in clear-lacquered or stained oak, or, for a surcharge, in clear-lacquered walnut. Plastic glides are included as standard; felt glides are available for a surcharge. Alongside the unupholstered version, the chair is also available with mirror upholstery in the seat. The range also includes the version with armrests, the swivel chair and the bar stool.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inside is upholstered - precisely the area where you sit and lean back. The back of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still giving a noticeable gain in seating comfort.
