THONET chair • S 164 F range
Elegant, comfortable and available in a range of versions: the S 160 range was developed for furnishing event spaces, canteens and residential-style contract areas. The chairs stack tightly (up to 17 chairs) and feature a connecting mechanism that links them together easily, securely, space-savingly and without tools (Thonet patent). With a low or high back and various upholstery options, the S 160 offers a broad range of applications. A version with wooden legs (160) turns the popular large-capacity chair into a residential-style chair for the contract sector, for example for homely cafés. There is also a delicate and particularly comfortable bar stool (S 160 H) for the hospitality sector and for working at high tables.
The THONET S 164 F chair stands on a chrome-plated four-leg frame made of tubular steel and carries a shell made of moulded plywood; the armrests are made of elastomer plastic. It is available unupholstered, with mirror upholstery on the seat, mirror upholstery on seat and back, and full upholstery. It is stackable and linkable, meaning it can be connected into rows of chairs without tools. Plastic glides are included as standard; felt glides are available for an extra charge, as are additional stain tones of Beech II.

Mirror upholstery: with mirror upholstery, only the inner side is upholstered – precisely the surface you sit and lean on. The back of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and delicate while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
Full upholstery: with full upholstery, the seat shell is covered all round in fabric or leather, including the back. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This makes the chair look softer, calmer and more homely than the mirror-upholstered version.
Elastomer plastic: elastomers are plastics that retain their shape but yield slightly under pressure. Thonet uses them for the armrests: they feel pleasantly warm to the touch – unlike bare metal – give a little when you lean on them, and are very resistant to daily wear.
Row connection: linkable chairs can be joined side by side into fixed rows without tools. This is required wherever large numbers of people sit together: in halls, churches, canteens or conference rooms. The Thonet connector is patented and complies with DIN EN 14703 for row seating, including panic-release safety – allowing the row to be cleared quickly and safely in an emergency.
