THONET cantilever chair with armrests • S 54 range
A comfortable, elegant all-rounder based on the cantilever construction principle. With its continuous seat shell it offers the highest comfort, is formally clear in design and made in the best Thonet quality. Its range of use extends from conference and meeting rooms, through training and seminar rooms, to the living area. The model is made in two different back heights, as a swivel chair variant and also in a stackable version.
The S 54 cantilever chair combines a chrome-plated tubular steel frame with a continuous shell made of moulded plywood and armrests made of elastomer plastic. At 95 cm high, it has the taller of the two back heights in the range. It is available in two upholstery options: with mirror upholstery on the seat only, or with mirror upholstery on the seat and back. The shell is supplied ex works in beech I and, for an additional charge, is available in further stain shades, in oak or in lightened oak; the armrests are available in beech or oak on request. POM plastic glides and felt glides are available for an additional charge.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inside is upholstered – precisely the area on which you sit and lean back. The rear of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still noticeably increasing seating comfort.
Elastomer plastic: Elastomers are plastics that keep their shape but yield slightly under pressure. Thonet uses them for the armrests: they feel pleasantly warm to the touch – unlike bare metal – give a little when you lean on them, and are very resistant to everyday use.
