The established design repertoire of the iconic bentwood chairs 214 and 209 is translated by the design of Sam Hecht and Kim Colin (Industrial Facility) into a material-efficient, stackable moulded wood chair with an ergonomic seat shell on a lightweight tubular steel frame. On request, bentwood armrests complement this seating, which is universally suited to both private and contract use and is available in various wood types and colours. The chair's design pushes the technical possibilities of moulded wood — at Thonet a driver of innovation from the very beginning — to the full. The S 220 impresses with controlled organic form and precise lines, the moulded wood shell embracing the user comfortably while offering support. The chair's elegant waist allows the seat shell to flex comfortably. Its smoothly rounded-down front edge sums up the harmonious interplay of material quality, aesthetics and functionality that is characteristic of the S 220: this "waterfall edge", as the designers call it, avoids pressure points, thereby increasing seating comfort, while echoing the radii of the tubular steel base frame. The programme is extended by the swivel chair variants S 220 Atelier (DRW) and the bar stool S 220 H.
The THONET S 220 H is the bar stool of the programme: the moulded wood shell on a tall four-legged tubular steel frame. The frame is available chrome-plated or powder-coated according to the Thonet collection. The shell is available in clear-lacquered or stained oak, with clear-lacquered walnut available for an additional charge. Plastic glides are included, with felt glides available for an additional charge. The bar stool is available unupholstered or with mirror upholstery on the seat.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inside is upholstered – precisely the area on which you sit and lean. The back of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still gaining noticeable seating comfort.
