Carl Hansen VLA61 Monarch Chair
Vilhelm Lauritzen was a pioneer of Danish modernism and known as a master of detail. With a functionalist approach, he insisted that shape must follow function. This is particularly evident in the poetic VLA61 Monarch Chair, with its doubly curved armrests, the organic shape of the frame and the elegant brass feet. At the same time, the VLA61 Monarch Chair is so comfortable that sitting in it feels almost like being embraced. Lauritzen's great passion for butterflies is reflected in the name, which refers to the majestic monarch butterfly. Designed in 1944, the chair was originally produced in only ten examples; in collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter, it has been recreated from a modern perspective. All parts are hand-polished several times, and the backrest is only upholstered after the chair has been assembled, to achieve a perfect finish.
The VLA61 is available in four versions: soaped oak, oiled oak or white oiled oak, as well as oiled mahogany. The seat and backrest are upholstered with foam and available in eight fabric groups as well as leather groups B and C. The fabrics Canvas, Clara, Remix, Fiord and Joe are not available for this model. The feet are made of brass.
