Carl Hansen FH429 Signature Chair
The FH429 Signature Chair was designed by Frits Henningsen, a furniture joiner who practised his craft at a very high level. Henningsen always made his own designs himself, often starting by creating a small model – in this case using modelling clay and toothpicks. The frame was then made in his Copenhagen workshop, with months of testing and adjustment carried out before Henningsen was satisfied. After the lounge chair was completed in 1954, fewer than 20 were produced. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the design in 2015. Over the years, Henningsen's work became increasingly pared back. The Signature Chair became his purest, most reduced design. His interest in achieving comfort and elegance through graceful, curved lines is expressed with particular clarity in this project, which was his last. The soft, inviting shapes and flowing armrests create a simple, organic form that invites quiet reflection. The FH429 Signature Chair is available with the matching FH430 footstool for even greater comfort.
The FH429 has a solid wood frame and is available in seven finishes: soaped oak, lacquered oak, oiled oak, white-oiled oak or black-lacquered oak, as well as lacquered or oiled walnut. The seat and backrest are made of moulded veneer wood with foam upholstery; the cover can be chosen from eight fabric groups and three leather groups. The Joe fabric is not available for this model. The matching footstool is model number FH430.
