YAN means "side" in Turkish — and it is precisely from the side that the chair reveals what it is about: two sturdy solid-wood struts cross beneath the seat to form an X, and one of them continues upward beyond the crossing point to carry the armrest. What looks symmetrical from the front is deliberately thrown off balance in profile.
Legs and armrests are solid ash in the colour "Lava", a deep, almost black tone in which the open ash grain remains visible. Alongside this sits a seat shell that appears to float softly above the wooden construction.
The upholstery is ecological: sisal webbing, coconut fibres, cold foam made with castor oil instead of petroleum, and a cushion pad of sheep's wool. The cover is permanently fixed and not removable — this preserves the shape over the years, but also means that choosing the cover is a long-term decision.
There is a choice of seven cover grades, from flat weave to aniline leather — more than for any other chair in the range. more does process customer-supplied fabric, but we do not stock it ourselves; please contact us for this.
YAN was designed as a companion to the AVAR table, but it also stands on its own — at the desk as much as a single armchair in a room.
