In Etsdorf, Lower Austria, the family business, now in its fifth generation, makes upholstered furniture that ranks among the best in the world. Every armchair, every sofa is built by hand, by saddlers and upholsterers whose knowledge has been passed down through the generations. Wittmann has preserved and revived the designs of Viennese Modernism: the icons of Josef Hoffmann, the visions of Adolf Loos – classics still made here today as they were a hundred years ago. Yet Wittmann is more than a museum. Contemporary designers such as Sebastian Herkner, Luca Nichetto and Paolo Piva have continued the legacy with furniture that connects tradition and the present.
