Roda Piper

There are design objects whose elements create a spontaneous familiarity, with no forced assonance of forms. That is the beau idéal of design: beauty rooted in a simple touch. The Piper collection is extensive. Its numerous elements provide for every moment of outdoor living. There is the cosiness of sofas for many guests, the privileged relaxation of a chaise longue, the practicality of a tabletop on a fine frame. The materials are faithful: lacquered aluminium, robust straps and Batyline weave. The colour palette ranges from sand, blue and orange to a rust-coloured finish for the structure. In other words: many parts and many finishes. The certain something that holds it all together can be found in Rodolfo Dordoni's very first pencil sketches. Perhaps it is the slanted legs that recur in every piece like a design tic, or the simplicity of a pattern that reveals itself as a decorative texture of woven straps; the clean lines of a solid disc for a wheel, pierced by the aforementioned legs like a piece cut out of a drawing by Fortunato Depero. There are objects whose expression builds on the choral character of many design components and cultural influences. Such objects, like Piper, demand that their creator be an excellent orchestra conductor. Roda was founded in 1990 as a company specialising in the manufacture of premium outdoor furniture. The company's success rests on the passion, experience and intuition of its founder Roberto Pompa, one of the first Italians to develop the new concept of the indoor garden: an indoor garden that dissolves the ever-fading boundary between inside and outside.
