Samay Armchair brings fresh lightness to a classic category: a wooden armchair that looks light and soft at first glance – and keeps that promise when you sit down. The combination of clear, gently shaped wooden details and soft cushions creates a harmonious and warm atmosphere. Despite its lightness, Samay Armchair conveys solidity and stability. Balanced proportions and the soft design radiate calm and confidence.

The particular quality of the armchair shows above all in the careful working of the wood. Walter Knoll has many years of experience in bending woods such as oak and walnut and developing precise, high-quality shapes from them.

Particular attention is paid to the surface treatment: oak and walnut are given a hard-wax seal that protects the wood from external influences while preserving its natural look and pleasant feel. Ash is finished with a special lacquer. With Samay, the craft quality shows particularly impressively in the way the armrest and backrest nestle elegantly around the cushion. The bent wood forms the paddle-shaped armrests on which the arms rest comfortably. Delicate metal struts connect the legs of the armchair and carry the cushion pad for the cushions.

A technological membrane fabric shrunk onto the metal frame provides the particular seating comfort. It serves as suspension and as a cushion pad for the seat cushion and gives the armchair its characteristic, almost floating lightness.

The seat and back cushions also combine precise workmanship with pleasant softness. Their multi-layer construction ensures high seating comfort and well-being. Careful craft details such as the folded cushion corners and the three-stitch decorative seams on the sides underline the high-quality workmanship. Samay Armchair thus combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology – light in appearance, stable in character and exceptionally comfortable.

Note: the leather hides are selected by specialists according to strict specifications and high inspection standards. By nature, leather has soft and firm areas, which may also be processed next to one another. It stretches with body heat and moisture during use. This produces a certain degree of waves and creases (known as seat indentations). Favourite seats show this particularly clearly. This adaptation process is largely complete after a few weeks. Further stretching is minimal and inconspicuous. Depending on the tanning method, dyeing and surface treatment, leather initially has a smell typical of the material. It decreases noticeably over the course of a few weeks. Airing can speed this up. Walter Knoll uses several leather hides (between five and seven) for one upholstery suite. No hide is like another. Insect bites, small injuries from fences or traces of fighting leave small scars on the cowhide, which you may rediscover in the leather. Fattening folds are a sign of the animal's health and good nutrition. These material-typical characteristics do not impair the quality of the leather furniture. Differences in sheen, colour and structure within one hide and between the cut parts of a cover are also characteristic and typical of leather furniture.
