Tembea, Swahili for moving, walking
A proverb of the Ovambo says: "Only by walking on does one reach the end of the journey." Tembea means moving, walking in Swahili. The trek through the desert – translated into modern rug art. The low-pile rug is made of 45% silk, 35% Tibetan highland wool and 20% nettle fibres.
Inspired by the landscapes and colours of Africa, the Walter Knoll rugs were created in collaboration with textile designer Helmut Scheufele. Their expressive power draws on the creative diversity of the African continent – translated into timeless, hand-knotted works of art.
The rug is hand-woven and can be adapted individually to your wishes. You can determine the length and width entirely according to your own ideas. So as not to restrict your choice with fixed dimensions, please contact our customer service to place your order.
- Material: 45% silk, 35% wool, 20% nettle
- Knot density: 150,000 knots/square metre
- Area weight: approx. 4.2 kg/sq m (due to the manual production of the yarns and rugs, deviations of up to 10% are possible)
- Pile height (total): approx. 11 - 14 mm (due to the manual production and shearing of the rugs, localised deviations of up to 10% are possible)
