As with a classic Chesterfield piece, the characteristic diamond pattern defines the seat and back of the Haussmann Armchair. The striking structure is created by the traditional upholstery technique of buttoning, in which the upholstery is elaborately quilted with buttons. The slender leg frame provides a fine contrast and is an homage to the clear design language of the Bauhaus. The iconic armchair was designed in 1962 by the Swiss architect and designer couple Trix and Robert Haussmann as part of the Swiss Design Collection. Their aim was to create a piece of furniture that offers the comfort of a classic Chesterfield while appearing lighter and more modern. This idea still defines the Haussmann today. Its characteristic design, high-quality workmanship and timeless quality make it a piece of furniture with lasting originality – created to be something special today and tomorrow.
Trix and Robert Haussmann are among the best-known architect and designer couples in Switzerland. They have worked internationally for more than four decades and have had a lasting influence on Swiss design history.

Note: the hides are selected by specialists according to strict specifications and high testing standards. By nature, leather has soft and firm areas of skin, which may also be worked side by side. It stretches in use through body heat and moisture. This produces a certain degree of waves and creases (known as seat impressions). Favourite spots document this particularly clearly. This adaptation process is largely complete after a few weeks. Further stretching is minimal and inconspicuous. Depending on the tanning method, dyeing and surface treatment, leather initially has a smell typical of the material. It diminishes noticeably over the course of a few weeks and airing can speed this up. For one upholstery group, Walter Knoll works several hides (between five and seven). No hide is like another. Insect bites, minor injuries from fences or traces of fighting leave small scars on the cowhide that you may rediscover in the leather. Growth folds are a sign of the animal's health and good nutrition. These material-typical characteristics do not impair the quality of the leather furniture. Differences in sheen, colour and structure within a hide and between the cut parts of a cover are also characteristic and typical of leather furniture.
