THONET shelf • Programme B 22
Inspired by the furniture of architects Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Mart Stam, and by the possibilities of tubular steel as a material, Thonet developed a series of its own designs from the 1920s onwards. These were mainly occasional furniture pieces, largely published in the plug-in card catalogue of 1930/31. The B 22 shelf is one of them.
The THONET B 22 shelf is made of chrome-plated tubular steel and holds two shelves at equal spacing. It is 85 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 75 cm high, and weighs 18 kg. The shelves come as standard in beech I; for an extra charge, they are also available in beech II stain shades, ash clear-lacquered, or ash open-pore lacquered in pure white or tomato red. The frame is only available chrome-plated. As standard, the shelf comes without glides; plastic or felt glides and the ThonetClip® cable clip are available for an extra charge.
