THONET chair lounge chair • Programme 119
Natural materials such as bentwood and cane weave, the shape reduced to the essentials: the 119 chair by Sebastian Herkner is a typical THONET product. Whether as a solitary piece or in pairs in the living room as an elegant addition to a sofa, in the lounge areas of hotel lobbies or in new-work settings, the 119 sets accents in a wide range of scenarios. A wide, slightly inclined backrest and a deep seat surface angled at 5.5 degrees invite a relaxed sitting position. If even more comfort is desired, an additional seat cushion can optionally be attached to the rear legs of the lounger. The design evolves organically from the successful Programme 118. The shape of the chair legs, rounded at the back and marked by slight edges at the front, echoes the horseshoe-shaped base of the seat. As with the 118 collection, a bentwood frame encloses the seat surface on the 119, which is available with a cane weave upholstery or a shell seat.
The THONET 119 lounge chair stands on a solid wood frame and has armrests; a bentwood frame encloses the seat surface. It is available in four versions: with a cane weave seat with a plastic support fabric underneath, with a shell seat in moulded plywood, with an upholstered seat and back in moulded plywood, and with mirror upholstery on seat and back. The surface is stained beech in six standard colours, and available in high-gloss lacquer for an additional charge. Plastic glides are included, felt glides available for an additional charge. The chair is complemented by the 119 PA cushion pad.

Mirror upholstery: With mirror upholstery, only the inner side is upholstered – exactly the surface you sit and lean on. The back of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
Shell seat: The shell seat is a seat surface made of moulded plywood that is slightly recessed towards the centre rather than flat. This means you sit somewhat within the surface rather than just on it: weight is distributed better, and you don't slide forward. More comfortable than a flat wooden board – and entirely without padding. This is denoted by the "M" in the model name, for example in 214 M or 118 M.
