THONET cantilever chair with armrests • S 61 range
Understated elegance combined with high seating comfort: with the S 60, Glen Oliver Löw succeeded in reinterpreting the cantilever chair and developing a contemporary solution. The seat shell in moulded plywood is connected to the tubular steel frame via the armrests. Cut-outs in the back provide a pleasant seating climate and visual definition. The armrests, coated in a soft plastic, taper towards the back where they connect to the seat shell. The diameter of the tubular steel has been reduced to a minimum, giving this comfortable chair an elegant, light and clear appearance.
The S 61 cantilever chair has a seat shell in moulded plywood, connected to the chrome-plated tubular steel frame via the armrests; the armrest pads are made of elastomer plastic and are available in nappa leather at extra cost. It is available in two upholstery versions: with comfort upholstery, where the beech shell remains visible, or as fully upholstered comfort version. With the comfort upholstery, the surface is beech I as standard; other stain shades, oak and lightened oak are available at extra cost. The chair is 94 cm high, the seat height is 46 cm, and the armrest height is 65 cm. POM plastic glides and felt glides are available at extra cost.

Fully upholstered version: With the fully upholstered version, the seat shell is covered all round with fabric or leather, including the back. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This makes the chair appear softer, calmer and more homely than the mirror-upholstered version.
Comfort upholstery: Comfort upholstery is a particularly elaborate upholstery construction: depending on the model, a fine non-woven layer is additionally sewn in. This makes the cushioning feel softer to sit on and, at the same time, more durable, as the cover is loaded more evenly.
Elastomer plastic: Elastomers are plastics that retain their shape but yield slightly under pressure. Thonet uses them for the armrest pads: they feel pleasantly warm to the touch – unlike bare metal – give a little when leaned on, and are very resistant to daily use.
