The PH 3½-3 has a top shade 33 cm in diameter and follows Poul Henningsen's principle of the reflecting three-shade system, which directs most of the light downwards. It is available in two versions, which differ in the material of the shades and therefore in the light.
Opal glass shade – High Lustre Chrome, Brass Metallised or Black Metallised
The shades are made of mouth-blown, three-layer opal glass, glossy on the outside and matt sandblasted on the inside. The lamp itself glows and gives a soft, diffuse light to the room. The colour refers to the suspension of drawn brass: high-lustre chrome-plated, brass-metallised or black-metallised.
Metal shade – Red, Yellow, Green or White
In these colours all three shades are made of drawn aluminium, powder-coated in colour on the outside and lacquered white on the inside. The shades let no light through: the light falls softly and comfortably downwards, and from the outside the lamp remains coloured rather than bright. The suspension is satin-matt brown brass. At 1.3 kg, this version is considerably lighter.
