The Petal collection by Knoll Studio presents itself in architecturally clear, urban design. This table series is an exciting combination of excellently finished powder-coated cast aluminium and high-quality machined rigid polyurethane.
The Petal side table was designed to complement the Bertoia Chairs created by Harry Bertoia for Knoll. The table tops consist of eight petals mounted on an elaborately made spider of cast aluminium. The inspiration for the design came from the wild flower Queen Anne's lace, which grows near the designer's house in Pennsylvania. Each petal is carried by its own stem, so that a supporting ring can be dispensed with. This allows each petal to move independently of the others and to adapt to changes in the weather. The tables were presented by Knoll in Los Angeles in 1960 and were immediately taken into the design collection of MoMA.
