Inspired by the grace of a butterfly, Arnd Küchel proudly presents the new PAPYON collection, a masterfully woven creation that unites beauty, elegance and enjoyment in harmony. The handcrafted high-back chair and the matching stool are created using a unique weaving technique that artfully combines two different weave patterns. As in nature, where contrasts create harmony, the exceptional colour palette – in particular the warm red-orange of the colour 'nectar' – gives the collection an elegant expressive power. This collection reveals the next evolutionary stage of DEDON fibres and craftsmanship.
Inspiration
For PAPYON, the Swiss designer and architect Arnd Küchel drew his inspiration from the refined patterns of nature and their functional elegance. The feather-light, flexible and aesthetic wing of a butterfly served as the starting point for the first sketches of PAPYON. Küchel recognised the fascinating parallels between these organic forms and the unique DEDON fibre. His aim was to reflect this connection in an innovative collection. Through close collaboration with DEDON's experienced master weavers, a design emerged that recalls the grace of a butterfly both structurally and formally.
Features
PAPYON is distinguished by two different weave patterns in which the DEDON fibres are interwoven with artful interstices. The overall effect recalls the thousands of tiny scales on butterfly wings. A generous, curved substructure gives the high-back chair support, not only visually but also structurally. The tapering silhouette conveys the pure beauty and the metaphorical power of a butterfly. The PAPYON footstool completes the ensemble, harmoniously maintaining the balance between functionality and design for use both indoors and outdoors.
Designer
Arnd Küchel, based in St. Moritz and Zurich, is committed to an architecture that is intuitively comprehensible. His approach emphasises the balance between intuition and subtlety by bringing out the interplay between people, buildings and their surroundings.
