Carl Hansen OW149 Colonial Chair
The OW149 Colonial Chair was designed by Ole Wanscher in 1959. Wanscher wanted to create furniture that paid tribute to classic, conservative trends while also standing the test of time. He achieved this balance with the design of the Colonial Chair, which remains his most famous design to this day. As a minimalist, Wanscher had a preference for the slender and refined. Yet despite its narrow dimensions, the Colonial Chair is very stable. Its strength lies in the carefully designed bracing. The refined, gently curved armrests of the design rise to a certain point before sweeping back down again – a hallmark of Wanscher's work. The front and back legs are made from round timber, with the back legs curving gently outward for added stability and a more refined result. Fifteen years later, Wanscher designed the matching Colonial Sofa and Colonial Coffee Table, and the Colonial Series was born. The Colonial Chair is available with the matching OW149F footstool for even greater comfort.
The OW149 has a solid wood frame; the seat surface is made of hand-woven cane. The cushion set of seat and back cushions with foam and down filling is included. The frame is available in soaped, clear lacquered, oiled, white oiled or black oak, as well as in clear lacquered or oiled walnut. The cushions are available in fabric groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 12, as well as in leather groups A, B and C. An additional cushion set in the same covers, as well as an additional seat frame in hand-woven cane, is available at extra cost. The OW149F footstool matches the OW149.
