Simplicity that makes an impact everywhere: Mart Stam removed the back legs from a chair shaped for centuries along similar principles. Through evolutionary refinement, this produced a piece of seating furniture that cuts a good figure anywhere understatement and quality are called for. In his furniture designs, Mart Stam valued high utility and economy, both aesthetically and materially. The result is a straightforward Shape, a clear construction and improved seating comfort. Stam achieved the greatest possible reduction with the S 43 cantilever chair by combining the tubular steel Frame with moulded Wood parts for the seat and back. Its pure, restrained Shape makes this cantilever chair an exemplary design in the spirit of modernism. The artistic copyright for the strictly cubic, back-legless chair now belongs to Thonet. The Natural Sciences reading room of the German National Library in Leipzig was already fitted with the S 43 cantilever chair in 1933. More than 70 years later, Thonet supplied new S 43 chairs to complement them. Only high-quality tubular steel furniture, as typical of Thonet, is this durable and sustainable. The range is extended by the S 43 Atelier (DR) swivel chair Variants, the S 43 H bar stools and the S 43 K children's chairs.
The THONET S 43 HT brings the S 43 cantilever chair up to counter height: chrome-plated tubular steel Frame, seat and back in moulded plywood. It is available unupholstered (S 43 HT) and with mirror Upholstery (S 43 PVHT). The Frame is available powder-coated for an additional charge, and the moulded Wood parts in further stain shades, in oak, or with opaque lacquer finish. POM plastic Glides or felt Glides are included in the scope of delivery.

Mirror Upholstery: With mirror Upholstery, only the inside is upholstered – precisely the surface you sit and lean on. The back of the Seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still gaining noticeably in seating comfort.
