The rugged table top in rustic, natural-looking solid wood forms a fascinating contrast to the base in industrial design. Here double-T girders show their coarse robustness, joined by a rectangular base plate, and immediately give the table an impressive presence.
Black steel is black-scaled raw steel of the kind also used in the building trade. The surfaces are not ground, so the girders show the typical traces of use such as scratches, scrapes, dents, stains, incipient rust and so on. The construction industry does not treat steel with care. If the surface is damaged, the bare steel appears beneath the black-scaled layer. These bare areas remain visible and are not to be regarded as damage. The surfaces are treated with rust converter and lacquered clear. This creates an interesting black-violet play of colour on the metal surface. With a black coating this play of colour would not be possible. We ask for your understanding of these material-related characteristics.
