Carl Hansen CH25 Lounge Chair
The CH25 Lounge Chair is clean and simple in its unmistakable Shape – as are many other legendary designs by Hans J. Wegner. The introduction of the Lounge Chair caused a stir due to Wegner's choice of material for the Backrest and seat. The woven paper cord was a substitute for seagrass and was developed during the Second World War. The material had never before been used for furniture. Wegner, however, was captivated by the look of the paper cord, which does not stretch and offers optimal durability, and the same holds true for subsequent generations. The CH25 Lounge Chair has been popular ever since and has been in continuous production since 1950 – proof of Wegner's visionary approach to design. An experienced craftsman needs 10 hours and around 400 metres of paper cord to hand-weave a Seat surface and a Backrest, using a particular weave-like technique that is visible on both sides of the Backrest. The impressive result of this demanding process is an exceptional chair that captivates from every angle.
The CH25 has a Frame of solid Wood; the seat and Backrest are hand-woven from paper cord. The Frame is available in oak soap-treated, clear-lacquered, oiled, white-oiled or black, as well as in walnut clear-lacquered or oiled. The paper cord is available in natural or black.
