The Colonial Sofa OW149-2 by Ole Wanscher is a distinctive interpretation of classic shapes that meets modern functional requirements. With its flexible shapes and slender dimensions, the sofa's style reflects Wanscher's fascination with 18th-century English furniture design. The design clearly communicates Wanscher's preference for refined details. The OW149-2 Colonial Sofa features a relatively simple lattice construction whose elements support one another. The slender dimensions are minimal. Instead, the strength of the design is achieved through a well-considered structure that uses double centre legs to ensure good stability. The sofa was designed in 1964, produced only in very small numbers, and was practically unknown until Carl Hansen & Søn launched the entire Colonial Series in 2015. It is a reinterpretation of the popular OW149 Colonial Chair from 1949 and part of the Colonial Series, which also includes the OW449 Colonial Coffee Table and the OW149F Colonial Footstool.
The OW149-2 is available in seven versions: soaped oak, lacquered, oiled, white oiled or black lacquered oak, as well as lacquered or oiled walnut. The cushion set is included in the price and available in eight fabric categories and three leather categories. An additional cushion and a seat frame in hand-woven cane are available at an extra cost.
