The famous coffee house chair is an icon and is still regarded as the most successful industrial product in the world: it marks the beginning of the history of modern furniture. The basis was a new technique, the bending of solid wood, which Michael Thonet perfected in the 1850s, making series production possible for the first time. There was also a brilliant distribution idea: a crate measuring one cubic metre was packed with 36 disassembled chairs, shipped around the world, and assembled on site. With its clear, reduced aesthetic, this classic has found its place in the most varied of settings for over 150 years.
The 215 shares its Frame and Dimensions with the coffee house chair 214: a four-legged Frame in bentwood, 43 x 52 x 84 cm. Two Versions are available – a cane Weave seat with a plastic support fabric beneath the seat (215 R), or a seat with mirror Upholstery (215 P). Plastic Glides are included; felt Glides are available for an extra charge. The Wood is executed in beech I; further stain tones, and for the 215 R the DARK MELANGE cane Weave, are available for an extra charge.

Mirror Upholstery: With mirror Upholstery, only the inner side is upholstered – precisely the area on which you sit and lean back. The rear of the Seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and delicate while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
