Carl Hansen CH22 Lounge Chair
After several decades out of production, Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced Hans J. Wegner's CH22 Lounge Chair in 2016. At first glance, the chair's large, distinctive wooden back with visible cover caps stands out, but a closer look reveals further signature Wegner details. On the sides, for example, the armrest can be seen hugging the side rail and seat frame before widening to its full breadth beneath the arm to give it optimal support. At the backrest, the seat's paper cord is guided down around the seat frame and through a horizontal groove in the back rail. There are two refined joints at the front of the seat, where the front legs are led upwards through hand-fitted corners. Although production has naturally been modernised, the CH22 is still made today according to the same craft principles as in 1950, when the first examples were produced in Carl Hansen's family workshop with Wegner himself involved in the production process. Precision has since improved through the modernisation of the manufacturing process, and the chair's front legs, originally round, now share the same profile as the back legs. They are now made exactly as Wegner originally drew them in his technical drawing, where the legs run up through the seat frame and are fixed with wedges.
The CH22 has a solid wood frame and armrests, a hand-woven paper cord seat and a veneer backrest. The frame is available in oak soap-treated, clear-lacquered, oiled, white-oiled or black, in walnut clear-lacquered or oiled, in the oak/walnut combination clear-lacquered or oiled, and in the oak/teak combination oiled. Oak/walnut means that the frame and cover cap are made of oak in combination with armrests and backrest in walnut. Oak/teak means that the frame is made of oak, with the armrests, backrest and cover caps in teak. The joints of the seat frame are always finished in a colour that contrasts with the frame's wood. The paper cord is available in natural or black. As an accessory, Carl Hansen & Søn offers a seat cushion in leather group A, available exclusively in Loke 7050, Loke 7150 or Loke 7748.
