The S 32 cantilever chair and its armed variant, the S 64, are the best-known tubular steel classics. Marcel Breuer designed them while living in Berlin in 1928. Their versatility has made them the best-selling cantilever chairs to this day, as they suit uncompromisingly modern interiors just as well as an eclectic mix of styles spanning different eras. Part of the appeal of these tubular steel icons lies in the striking combination of new and proven: bentwood with airy Viennese cane weave for the seat and backrest embodies Thonet tradition, while the tubular steel frame, revolutionary in its day, represents the present and future. Thonet has produced both models since 1930. Thanks to their aesthetic reduction and clarity, these classics suit the widest range of settings, from conference rooms and waiting areas to restaurants and homes. The programme is extended by the S 64 Atelier (VDR) swivel chair variants and the S 32 VH bar stool.
The THONET S 64 Atelier translates the cantilever chair classic onto a five-star swivel base with castors and offers stepless height adjustment. It is available in five versions – with cane weave in a bentwood frame (S 64 VDR), with synthetic mesh upholstery (S 64 NDR), with an upholstered seat and cane weave back (S 64 SPVDR) or mesh back (S 64 SPVNDR), and fully upholstered (S 64 PVDR). The swivel base is available in aluminium or, for an additional charge, in tubular steel, with castors in black, white or chrome-plated.

Full upholstery: with full upholstery, the seat shell is covered all round in fabric or leather, including the back. The wood surface is then no longer visible. This gives the chair a softer, calmer and more homely appearance than the mirror-upholstered version.
Comfort upholstery: comfort upholstery is a particularly elaborate upholstery construction. Depending on the model, a fine fleece is additionally sewn in. This makes the upholstery feel softer to sit on and, at the same time, more durable, as the cover is loaded more evenly.
