Carl Hansen AJ52 Society Table
Arne Jacobsen's elegant AJ52 Society Table was designed in 1952 for the New York office of the American-Scandinavian Foundation and is a fluid fusion of Bauhaus, functionalism and industrial design. The design emerged at the peak of Jacobsen's career. He used new techniques and materials to create the slender desk with its finely structured leather table top, which sits closely against a frame of tubular metal. A tapered desk lamp in brushed stainless steel forms a seamless extension of the design, as does the letter box in wood and veneer with a glass front. Beneath the table, a unit with six drawers, also in wood and veneer, is suspended from slim metal tubes – a feature that, together with the slender frame and solid wood feet, contributes to the desk's lightness. The AJ52 Society Table is available in two sizes and with or without the letter box and desk lamp.
The AJ52 is available in two sizes: 140 × 70 cm and 160 × 70 cm. The frame is made of stainless steel, and the table top is covered in leather from leather group F (Freja), available in Brown 2068 or Black 2002. The feet and drawers are made from the same wood type with matching surface treatment; options are oak clear lacquered, oiled, white oiled or black lacquered, as well as walnut clear lacquered or oiled. The drawer module with six drawers is included and can be fitted on either the left or right side of the table. The lamp module, with a stainless steel lamp and a solid wood and glass shelf, is available at an additional cost and can only be fitted on the left side.
