Walter Knoll Sheru Chair • Tubular Frame
An elegant, comfortable chair that effortlessly balances working, living and wellbeing. Thanks to the innovative chAIR technology, the breathable shell chair offers excellent seating comfort and pleasant ventilation. Ideal for hours of conversation – with family, at friends' houses, in meetings or at conferences.
The Sheru range offers maximum variety and numerous applications: depending on the setting and style, the base frames can be individually configured – choose between solid wood or tubular frames as well as four-leg or five-star bases. You can also choose between relaxed or tailored upholstery. All cushion covers are removable. All models follow the same design language. Even when combining different frames and variants, the overall look remains harmonious and consistent.
Together with design trio EOOS, Walter Knoll's development team completely rethought the technology behind a shell chair. The innovation of the chAIR technology lies in the seat shell: it contains hidden openings in the seat and back. In the seat area, straps are arranged in a palm-leaf pattern within these openings, creating a pleasantly springy seating feel. At the same time, the openings ensure good ventilation. After a long life cycle, all materials can be easily separated and recycled by type.
The next generation, Sheru evo: Walter Knoll has further developed Sheru chAIR with sustainability in mind. Sheru evo is part of Walter Knoll's evo concept. The materials and construction have been fundamentally revised. What's new: on the evo models, the padding is worked directly into the cover. Thanks to this intelligent construction, Walter Knoll can dispense with adhesives entirely. This creates long-term added value and marks a consistent evolution of the existing concept.
"EOOS designed the shell from a refined pattern, like the great masters of fashion. It just seems to happen by itself. Magical." – Markus Benz, CEO Walter Knoll
General Information

- Base frame: tubular frame, 18 mm
- Armrests: closed or upholstered
- Frame and cover are separable and recyclable
- Note on the upholstery appearance: due to the construction, slight waviness in the cover may occur during use as the materials stretch
- Sheru chairs carry the GS mark for tested safety
Dimensions (W × D × H)
- Tailored: 63.5 × 62 × 83.5 cm
- Relaxed: 64 × 62.5 × 84 cm
Upholstery
- Relaxed upholstery look: two options are available for the padding construction – with the foam variant, the plastic shell is fitted with moulded foam; with the evo variant, a 3D mesh sewn into the cover provides the padding in the seat and back.
- Tailored upholstery look: for the tailored look, the padding is fitted as standard with moulded foam (foam variant).
Cover
- Foam padding variant: the cover can be removed from and refitted to the moulded plastic shell by a specialist.
- Evo padding variant: the cover can be removed from and refitted to the plastic shell without specialist knowledge (see the instructions for use for further information).

Note: leather hides are selected by specialists according to strict guidelines and high inspection standards. Leather naturally has soft and firm areas of hide, which may be processed side by side. It stretches through body heat and moisture during use, which can lead to a certain degree of waviness and creasing (so-called seating hollows). Favourite seats show this particularly clearly. This settling process is largely complete after a few weeks; further stretching is minimal and inconspicuous. Depending on the tanning method, dyeing and surface treatment, leather initially has a typical odour, which noticeably diminishes over a few weeks and can be reduced faster by airing the room. Walter Knoll uses several hides for a single upholstered suite. No two hides are alike: insect bites, small scars from fences or fighting leave marks on the cattle hide that you may rediscover in the leather. Growth folds are a sign of the animal's health and good nutrition. These material-typical characteristics do not affect the quality of the leather furniture. Differences in sheen, colour and texture within a single hide and between the cut pieces of a cover are likewise characteristic and typical of leather furniture.
