Choosing the right materials for your garden

Below we present the materials that are particularly suitable for use in the garden and, over recent years and through our experience, have proven convincing. 

Woods

(e.g. teak, acacia, mahogany, bamboo, eucalyptus)
Thanks to their natural oils and density, these timbers are inherently protected against moisture, mould and insect infestation.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and does not rust, so it retains its quality even in adverse weather conditions. It is robust and durable, and therefore well suited to outdoor use. 

Rattan

Synthetic rattan is durable and can withstand moisture and UV radiation without fading or rotting. It is easy to clean and therefore a popular choice for all kinds of garden furniture.

Iron

Iron can be protected from rust with coatings or treatments, making it a robust option for garden furniture. With appropriate care, iron can also be used outdoors for the long term.

Glass

Glass is impervious to the weather and retains its quality even in sunlight and humidity. It is easy to clean and well suited to table tops for garden furniture.

HPL (High Pressure Laminate)

HPL is a hard-wearing, weather-resistant material that withstands moisture, heat and UV radiation. It is easy to clean and retains its quality even with long-term outdoor use.

Rope

Rope is made from synthetic fibres that are weather-resistant and UV-stabilised. It is easy to clean while offering a pleasant feel and look for garden furniture.

Ceramic

Ceramic is waterproof, scratch-resistant and UV-resistant, making it ideal for outdoor use. It retains its colour and quality even under intense sunlight and in damp conditions.

Textiles

Outdoor textiles are often made from water-repellent, UV-resistant materials that stand up to the elements. They are breathable and quick-drying, offering a high level of comfort outdoors.

Aluminium

Aluminium is light, corrosion-resistant and does not rust, making it an ideal choice for garden furniture. It is durable and easy to care for, and retains its quality even in adverse weather conditions.

Our tips for long-lasting garden enjoyment

  • Regular cleaning and care: Keep your garden furniture clean by cleaning it regularly. Use mild cleaning agents and a soft cloth or brush to gently remove dirt, dust and deposits. 
  • Protection from the elements: Protect your garden furniture from the damaging effects of sun, rain, snow and moisture by covering it when not in use. Use tarpaulins or dedicated furniture covers to keep it weatherproof.
  • Painting or sealing: Depending on the material of your garden furniture, you can apply an additional protective layer of paint or sealant. This can help protect the material from moisture, sunlight and wear. Make sure you use paints or sealants suitable for the material in question. 
  • Touching up damage: Repair damaged spots or cracks promptly to prevent greater damage. Use repair products suited to the material in question to extend the life of your garden furniture.
  • Using protective padding: Use cushions or cushion pads to protect your garden furniture from scratches and wear and tear. These can also help to increase comfort and improve the appearance of your furniture.
  • Proper storage in winter: To keep your garden furniture weatherproof through winter, store it in a dry, sheltered place to prevent damage from frost and moisture and preserve its weather resistance.
