Ison – a new interpretation of the classic corner bench

Light, minimal, complex. Whether as a corner bench, sofa bench or dining bench, Ison reinterprets the classic corner bench, combining timeless design with modern comfort. The upholstered bench follows the principle of modernism: less is more. A new variant of an upholstered bench was developed for Ison, with a particularly light base frame. The generous upholstered surface appears to float, seemingly weightless, on the elegant frame. Reduced leg brackets support the seat surface and emphasise the clear design language. Ison invites not only comfortable sitting but also relaxed reclining.

The bench is available in various lengths and configurations, as a corner bench or a straight bench. The proven construction with pocket springs ensures particular sitting and reclining comfort. Three back variants are available: Advanced, with a distinctive piped stitching, and Classic and Classic-low (corner benches only), with a smooth look in two different heights. The precise finishing of the seams underlines the craftsmanship quality.

Ison uses deliberately reduced materials. Material is used only where it is actually needed – for Walter Knoll, minimal design also means sustainable design, an approach the company has pursued for many years. Searching for new solutions for sitting together at the table, the design team EOOS rediscovered the corner bench as an element of modern living a quarter of a century ago. The freestanding, upholstered corner bench Together, created in 1999, established an entirely new category. With Ison, this successful concept is developed further and reinterpreted for today.

• The linking bench has one foot bracket; the corner linking bench has two foot brackets. The seat overhang indicates the distance between the end of the back and the end of the seat. It must be defined separately for both parts of the corner bench.

How to order a corner configuration

1. Select the appropriate size for the linking bench and the corner linking bench.
2. Define the desired orientation of the benches: left or right.
3. Define the desired back type for each model. For the linking benches, the "Classic" and "Advanced" variants are available (Advanced for an additional charge). Both back versions have the same back height. For the corner linking benches, the "Classic-low" version is also available in addition to "Classic" and "Advanced". The "Classic-low" version has a lower back height (68.5 cm instead of 78 cm) and a greater seat depth (52 cm instead of 55 cm).
4. Define the seat overhang for the respective end side. You can choose between a seat overhang of 0 cm and 30 cm.

Important note on ordering: A corner configuration is made up of two separate modules. Please configure either the linking bench or the corner linking bench first and add it to your basket. Then configure the other module and add it to your basket as well. Both configured models together make up your corner configuration.

Cold foam: Cold foam is a high-quality, shape-retaining upholstery foam characterised by its particular elasticity and resilience. It adapts comfortably to the body without losing its shape. In high-quality upholstered furniture, cold foam ensures precise, comfortable and durably shape-retaining seating. After being compressed, the material quickly returns to its original shape, resulting in fewer permanent seat impressions, so the upholstery retains its characteristic shape.

Pocket springs: A pocket spring core consists of many individual springs, each housed in a separate textile pocket. This allows the springs to react independently of one another and adapt very precisely to the body's load. This creates a differentiated, dynamic and particularly comfortable seating experience. At the same time, the spring core offers high elasticity and supports the upholstery so that you do not sink in too deeply.

Note: leather hides are selected by specialists according to strict specifications and high inspection standards. Leather naturally has soft and firm areas of skin, which may also be processed side by side. It stretches with body heat and moisture during use, which to a certain extent creates waves and creases (so-called seat impressions). Favourite seating spots show this particularly clearly. This adjustment process is largely complete after a few weeks; further stretching is minimal and inconspicuous. Depending on the tanning method, dyeing and surface treatment, leather initially has a product-typical smell, which noticeably diminishes over the following weeks; airing can speed this up. Walter Knoll processes several hides for one upholstered suite. No hide is like another: insect bites, small injuries from fences or fighting marks leave small scars on the cowhide, which you may rediscover in the leather. Feeding folds are a sign of the animal's health and good nutrition. These material-typical characteristics do not affect the quality of leather furniture. Differences in gloss, colour and texture within a single hide and between the cut pieces of a cover are also characteristic and typical of leather furniture.
