Cold foam: cold foam is a high-quality, dimensionally stable upholstery foam characterised by its particular elasticity and resilience. It conforms comfortably to the body without losing its shape. In high-quality upholstered furniture, cold foam ensures precise, comfortable and permanently shape-retaining seating. After being under load, the material quickly returns to its original shape – resulting in fewer lasting seat impressions, so the upholstery keeps its characteristic form.

Note: the selection of leather hides is carried out by specialists according to strict specifications and high inspection standards. Leather naturally has soft and firm sections of hide, which may also be processed alongside one another. It stretches through body heat and moisture during use. This causes waves and folds (so-called seat impressions) to a certain extent. Favourite seating spots document this particularly clearly. This adjustment process is largely complete after a few weeks. Further stretching is minimal and unobtrusive. Depending on the tanning method, dyeing and surface treatment, leather has a product-typical odour at first. This noticeably diminishes over the course of a few weeks. Airing can accelerate this. Walter Knoll processes several leather hides (between five and seven) for one upholstered set. No hide is like another. Insect bites, small injuries from fences, or marks from fighting leave small scars on the cattle hide, which can be rediscovered in the leather. Growth folds are a sign of the animal's health and good nutrition. These material-typical characteristics do not impair the quality of the leather furniture. Differences in sheen, colour and texture within a single hide, and between the cut sections of a cover, are likewise characteristic and typical of leather furniture.
