TOM DIXON Beat Stout Pendant Black ceiling light • BEAT collection
Tom Dixon's Beat lights are handcrafted masterpieces in brass whose origins lie in reused water vessels. They are made by talented artisans in northern India using traditional techniques and local expertise. Each light carries the unique signature of its maker and celebrates the beauty of handmade products.
The Beat lights are the result of an initiative started by Tom Dixon in Jaipur in 2004 to help preserve the disappearing craft and skills of Rajasthan's street metalworkers. These lights combine the proportions and techniques of traditional brass work, normally used for water vessels and cooking pots, with a modern sculptural simplicity and functionality.
Each Beat light is carefully made from hand-spun brass and shows the traces of the artisanal process. Its polished inner surfaces refract and reflect the light in a warm and welcoming way.
The Beat lights come in various forms, each providing a unique kind of illumination. The outer lacquering in different colours and the luminous interior give these lights a fascinating look. They fit perfectly into any interior and yet still draw the eye.
Tom Dixon's Beat lights can be hung individually or in groups to show off their original design. They are an impressive example of innovative lamp design and a homage to traditional craftsmanship.
