This elegant bentwood classic is a masterpiece of construction and craftsmanship: the sweeping bow, which forms the backrest and armrests at once, is bent into shape from a single piece of solid beech wood. Like the original bentwood chair, model no. 214, the 209 also consists of only six parts. Its aesthetic reduction, combined with the organic shape, makes it appear almost sculptural. The Swiss architect Le Corbusier was so taken with it that he used it in many of his buildings, including in 1927 at the Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart. He confirmed that this chair "possesses nobility".
The 209 is a bentwood chair with armrests on a four-legged frame. Two versions are available: with a cane weave seat and a plastic support fabric beneath the seat (209), or with a mirror-upholstered seat (209 P). Plastic glides are included; felt glides are available at an extra cost. The wood is finished in Beech I; further stain shades are available at an extra cost, and for the cane weave version the DARK MELANGE weave is also available. The programme also includes model 210, in which the backrest is likewise covered with cane weave or upholstered.

With mirror upholstery, only the inner side is upholstered — precisely the surface on which you sit and lean back. The rear of the seat shell remains visible in wood or plastic. This keeps the chair light and slender while still noticeably improving seating comfort.
